Atlassian – A cloud first company

As you might have read in Atlassians service announcement – Accelerating our journey to the cloud, together, Atlassian will now focus primarily on Cloud products.

It have been in the cards for a couple of years, but it’s first now that it will really have an impact on existing customer.

This means that the Server products over the next couple of years will be out phased – The first cut is 2. February where all sale of new licenses for the server products will stop. Atlassian knows its a big step, and because of that they will make it as smooth a transition as possible, which means they still will offer support and maintenance for existing users the next couple of years.

February 2, 2021

End of sale for new licenses

On February 2, 2021, Atlassian will stop selling new licenses for server products and cease new feature development in their server product line.

Updates to future pricing

The price of maintenance for existing server licenses will increase, this is done to ensure the continued security and maintenance of the server platform.

February 2, 2022

End of upgrades and downgrades

You can no longer upgrade or downgrade user tiers for your server products or apps. Upgrading or downgrading user tiers will only be available by moving to either cloud or Data Center.

February 2, 2023

End of new app sales

You can no longer purchase new apps for your existing server licenses. App renewals are expected to be prorated with an end date of February 2, 2024 PT to match your server products’ end of support date.

February 2, 2024

Three years of maintenance

If you have an existing server license, you can continue to renew and receive maintenance and support for your licenses until February 2, 2024.

After February 2, 2024, support and bug fixes will no longer be available for your server products and apps, and any renewals will be prorated to match this date.

February 2, 2021

Pricing changes take effect

New prices for Data Center will go into effect. For existing subscriptions, the new pricing will apply to your next renewal term.

Priority Support included

Priority Support will be included with Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence, and Crowd Data Center & Bitbucket Data Center for customers with 251 or more users.

New functionality included with Data Center

The following Atlassian-built apps and new functionality will be included with a Data Center subscription:

Jira Software Data Center: Advanced Roadmaps (formerly Portfolio for Jira)
Confluence Data Center: Team Calendars for Confluence, Analytics for Confluence
Jira Service Management Data Center: Insight – Asset Management, Insight Discovery

There will be no changes to the Cloud products right away.

However, as the focus is changing from server to cloud first, the development speed of new functionality the Atlassian cloud products will accelerate.
